Als Luise die Briefe K. 520
Compared with the great lieder composers of the following century, Mozart’s output as a composer of songs is small – only 30 to 40 songs are extant – but, typically, it is a particularly diverse and rewarding section of his oeuvre. This song (to give it its full title, Als Luise die Briefe ihres ungetreuen Liebhabers verbrannte) is to a text by Gabriele von Baumberg. It dates from the Viennese spring of 1787 and (like the contemporaneous Das Traumbild K.530) was later published under the name of Gottfried von Jacquin, at whose home this song was written.
