Cathy Bell (mezzo-soprano) was a soprano choral and academic scholar at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where she read English and took an MPhil in Medieval Literature. Performances in Cambridge included several oratorio works and recitals, as well as the Queen of the Night (Mozart Magic Flute) and First Niece (Britten Peter Grimes) for Cambridge University Opera Society. Cathy moved to Oxford in 2004, where concert performances have included Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music, Bach Mass in B minor, Haydn Nelson Mass and Stravinsky Pulcinella, as well as recitals for New Chamber Opera and St Giles Church. Operatic roles include First Witch (Purcell Dido and Aeneas) and Shepherdess (Blow Venus and Adonis), both for New Chamber Opera; the Knave of Hearts in a touring production for Opera Anywhere; and most recently Susanna (Mozart The Marriage of Figaro) for Oxford Millennium Opera.
 
In 2006 Cathy switched from soprano to mezzo-soprano and took up a place on the Postgraduate Diploma in Performance at Birmingham Conservatoire. Opera roles have included Dorabella (Mozart Così fan tutte) and Zulma (Rossini L’Italiana in Algeri) for Conservatoire opera scenes and cover for Cherubino (Mozart The Marriage of Figaro) in the 2007 Conservatoire production.
