Chris Brown (viola) graduated from Clare College, Cambridge, in 2001. He subsequently assumed the Anthony Els scholarship at the Royal College of Music, London, where he studied with Simon Rowland-Jones and Andrei Vitovich. In 2003 he gained his PGDip(Adv) with distinction and moved to Prague for a year of advanced musical studies with Prof. Dr. Milan Skampa. He currently lives in West London.
Chris was a founder member of the Doric String Quartet with whom he played until 2004. He has subsequently performed with many of the most talented young British chamber ensembles, including the Carducci quartet (prizewinners at London and Osaka competitions), the Badke String Quartet (Hattori foundation prizewinners) and the Artea Quartet (Tillett Trust recipients) as well as larger ensembles like the Chamber Music Company and Mahagony Opera. Chris has performed in venues throughout the UK and Europe, and has taken part in live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and ORF (Austrian national radio). He has been instructed by some of the world’s foremost musicians, including members of the Amadeus, Alban Berg, Hagen, LaSalle and Vermeer quartets.
Chris is passionately committed to music education; he has collaborated with Wiltshire Education Service and teaches in schools in disadvantaged areas in West London.
