Allegro and Andante (Fantasy) in F minor K. 608
The second work that Mozart wrote for a mechanical organ in a clock for Count Joseph Deym’s Müllersche Kunstgalerie in Vienna, this Allegro and Andante was completed in March 1791, and is dubbed in the score “Fantasy”. It is thus commonly performed on piano and organ as the Fantasia in F minor. Mozart didn’t enjoy composing these pieces, and he wrote that “if it were not being done for such an important reason I should certainly drop it entirely.” Nevertheless the three completed pieces for mechanical organ have all earned their place in the repertory of both pianists and organists.
