Jeremy Summerly is the Head of Academic Programmes and the Head of Undergraduate Studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London. He was educated as a chorister at Lichfield Cathedral, at Winchester College and at Oxford University, from where he graduated with First Class Honours in Music. While in Oxford he was a choral scholar at New College and conducted the New College Chamber Orchestra and The Oxford Chamber Choir. After graduating, he worked as a Studio Manager for BBC Radio, founded the Oxford Camerata, and undertook musicological research at King's College, London.
 
He has conducted over 50 CD recordings spanning music from Gregorian chant to the present day, and toured Europe, USA, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan and Southern Africa. He conducted the Choir of London on its inaugural visit to Palestine in 2004. Jeremy received the European Cultural Prize from the European Association for the Encouragement of the Arts (Basel, Switzerland) in 1995 and made his conducting début at the BBC Proms in 1999, and his début at the Berlin Philharmonie in 2005. He has also conducted at the Aldeburgh, Exeter, Ryedale, South Kesteven, Docklands, and Kumamoto Festivals, and at the Tage Alter Musik in Regensburg.
 
In the field of new music Jeremy has often conducted in the composer’s presence, including music by Kagel, Ligeti and Pärt. With the Choir of London he has conducted significant premières by O’Regan, Swayne and Tavener.
 
He is also a freelance record producer and writer/ presenter for BBC Radios 3 and 4. As a writer he has contributed articles to Early Music, The Musical Times, Choir & Organ, Leading Notes, and Classic CD, and he also edits music for Faber Music.
