Ouverture from Suite in C K. 399
Mozart’s incomplete C major suite is ostensibly written in imitatio of earlier 18th-century practice, but differs from the example of Bach and Handel largely becaause each movement is in a different key, something (whether adopted through ignorance or innovation) which sets it apart from those exemplars. Completed in Vienna in early 1782 it is the first (ouverture) movement which is most usually heard now.
