Piano Sonata in C major K. 330
Between July and November 1783 Mozart completed a brace of piano sonatas (K.330 – K.333) of which this is the first and arguably the most pleasing. (The Piano Sonata in A K.331 is being performed in Event Four and Event Six.) Eschewing pyrotechnics, this sonata rests more on gossamer-like textures which require lightness of touch and intense musicality. It is in three movements (Allegro moderato – Andante cantabileAllegretto) and it is a model of classical symmetry, one of the most satisfying of his many sonatas for solo keyboard.
